Before the mast...

Back in January 2006 I made a decision to take on a challenge – one that I hoped would help me, but also, and more importantly, to help children in our society who do not have the advantages most of us take for granted.

It was through the children’s charity Whizz-Kidz that I chose to concentrate my efforts. The charity provides customised mobility equipment, not normally available on the NHS, for disabled children.

Whizz-Kidz has experienced enormous success for a number of years now and has provided thousands of children with many varied kinds of equipment and the chance of a more independent life. For full details, please visit the charity’s website using the link above.

My challenge was to undertake a trek in the Indian Himalayas, but first I had to raise a minimum of £2675 and train physically to be fit enough to tackle it.

Today – January 1st 2007 – I can look back on a year so far without equal in my life – during which I raised over £3,000, dragged myself from the status of lounge lizard (well almost) to fitness freak and experienced two weeks in the Himalayas that almost defy words.
